I weigh about 180 now (overweight for my height, but I dropped my BMI from 44 to 29). I can gain 3 pounds from a very salty meal and it's gone in a couple of days. So a 3 pound fluctuation is fine with me. Anything more means my eating habits are bad.
So I guess bottom line is that I'd use both the scale and an awareness of how my eating habits have (or have not) changed recently.
Congratulations on your weight loss! I too was overweight and have been maintaining for nearly three years. 2020 is the first full year that I have not lost weight since I began losing.
