Buy a step with risers (they have some that are square and take up little room). You can step up and down in a very small space plus better exercise than just walking around.

Definitely, I live in a row house with 2 wild toddler boys and easily get 13,000 steps on the weekend without having to leave the house. I feel like I'm constantly moving to clean up after them, play games of chase, preparing meals etc.....its crazy.

I vote for jumprope. It can be exhausting but good exercise.

I sometimes use the bottom stair as a type of aerobics exercise--stepping up and down over and over again while I'm listening to a book or a podcast. I found that easier than walking around our tiny townhouse and more effective at getting my heart rate up.

I sort of do this, too. When I feel like I want to get more steps in but am done being outside for the day, I usually march in place behind the couch while we watch TV. You'd be shocked how quickly you can rack up some steps that way!

I am kind of a walking obsessive...

There are safety features on treadmills, so that really shouldn't be a concern.

Can't speak to your lack of room, though.

Sure! My mom gets 10,000 steps in their 1,000 sq ft apartment. She walks circles around the living room, or runs up and down the stairs in the stairwell.

I live in a three-room apartment and just by consciously thinking about it get at least 10,000 extra steps in a day on top of what I would normally get since WFH for Covid.

It takes fewer than 10 minutes to get in 1,000 so I pace while on some calls, while waiting for a pot to boil, etc.

Can you set aside a few times a day to run the stairs? Maybe 3 times a day, top to bottom. Lengthen the route as much as you can (to the back door, to the far corner of the last bedroom upstairs). Run/walk it 5x each set.

Then maybe add in a couple laps around the block at lunch or before dinner.

Put music on all the time. When you're cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, making the bed, etc.

I’d love to get a treadmill for this winter, but we don’t have room, plus I’m concerned about safety with toddlers around. Any ideas for getting steps in, as if I had a treadmill, after kids go to bed? Move furniture and make a loop on my living room?
