From there, what the tourney directors do is up to that specific tournament, but generally they give weight to traveling clubs coming from farther away so they get their money's worth.

This is very helpful, thanks!

The latter is what our coach did.

But there's a difference between "challenge" and "blown off the field."

it's hard to tell. DD's team has easily won brackets and then gotten destroyed in finals before and other times they've barley gotten out of brackets and won finals walking away. For whatever reason, it seems like they are constantly running into tournaments with lopsided brackets

Combination of YouthSoccerRankings.com, GotSoccer Points and League records. After those, if trying to make a split decision, previous tournaments at said tournament OR hosting club team will take higher bracket.

Tournaments have to do it's best to make things competitive so teams return the following year.

I cant say I know for certain but I would think the league the teams play in, placement in their league and gotsoccer rankings for tournament flight placement.

How does a team or league determine the flights? Same for league play - how do they figure out what the right level is for a particular team?

TIA!
