Plenty of dealer service loaner or demo cars are used for a year (or less) and then sold, so plenty of 1 year old cars are put on the market from that route.

People's needs also change. Someone buys a car then moves to a new city and finds their car doesn't suit their new lifestyle/space/needs.

All that said, OP if you want long-term reliability get the Highlander.

OP, it's likely that a new Highlander makes much better financial sense. If you share the price and trim level, we can help you figure out how much a new one would cost.

The vw won’t last a decade more.

Since you want it for a decade, I would choose the Highlander. I agree the Atlas is more attractive & more enjoyable to drive. But, who knows how long it will last you.

What's the price and trim level on the highlander?

For both used cars, price and mileage are the same, so those aren't a factor.

I really like both. the VW is slightly cuter and more cargo space, which is important to me, but I owned a camry 15 yrs ago and had a great experience, so that left me with a positive impression of Toyota.

I am looking for something I can drive for a decade. This will be the car we use for long family trips. Two kids.
