Meds are 5-7k out of pocket, and genetic testing (recommended if you are over 35) is $3,500 out of pocket. Freezing embryos is $1,500. Things start to add up really fast.

Check the Infertility forum on this site-lots of info there on costs at SG and other clinics. When I checked with SG earlier this year, it was $7k for an egg retrieval and then another $3-4k for the embryo transfer. This does not include the cost of meds. And these prices are the “aetna discounted rate” which I was told they would offer if I paid out of pocket and not through insurance.

(that is: they charge a penalty fee IN ADDITION TO the original charges for the cycle... they told me they don't do "banking" or "fertility preservation" - were very dismissive of it which I assume is because of how it affects the success stats they use for marketing. And of course, none of these figures include the medication cost - which, if your insurance doesn't cover, or runs out, are well into the four figures per cycle as well)

realtalk: those figures listed here (6-7K a cycle) are literally half of what SG charged me for a standard, uncomplicated IVF cycle. For some perspective: if you do the shared risk program and successfully produce any embryos and don't immediately transfer at least one of them before starting on another retrieval cycle - even if there's a valid medical reason for the delay - they charge you a PENALTY fee of 7K.

Not OP, but I have a follow up question. Do they allow you to bank embryos in the 2-cycle package? Like, could I do the two retrieval’s back to back and then start FETs? We really want to have more than one kid. Thanks!!

How much if insurance doesn't cover it? do they offer payment plans?

We have been trying for 2 years, I'm 36, I'm guessing either IUI or IVF is our next best bet.
