99.99% sure that’s what she means. I was also confused at first.

My 5'1" tween is 87lbs. I think she's a little on the slim side, but overall healthy. What does you dr say OP? I think it's less about weight and more about making sure they're eating a nutritious diet and getting in physical activity.

My mom used to say 100 for 5 feet and 5 lbs for every inch after that. Your girl sounds right on track.

Agree with the role of puberty here. I have an older teen and know one family in particular whose girls were both quite heavy around that age. They were early bloomers, got their periods early. But, they continued to exercise, eat healthy and have the support of a wonderful family. Both are very healthy looking HS girls now that are not heavy. Be smart, but don't overreact and create issues.

At 10, many girls start gaining weight for puberty. Those charts stop being relevant for about 5 years, and some girls go through puberty much earlier than others. That does not make them overwrote obese.

Your daughter is totally fine. Please let her eat and grow.

Online child BMI calculator says that’s the 83rd percentile for a ten year old which is in their healthy range.

Not that BMI is the end all be all, but a helpful check against other kids.

PP again. Just to be clear, that BMI falls between 75 and 85% for a 10 year old.

This forum tends to have trouble being straightforward about childhood obesity. It’s pretty straightforward. A BMI over the 85th% is overweight and over the 95th is obese. For a just turned 10 year old girl who is 5 feet tall, 100 lbs gives them a BMI of 19.5. That’s heavier than average but not overweight.

this. Does she eat nutritious food most of the time and get exercise daily? That’s what you focus on, not the weight.

Pediatricians have this curve that basically outlines your child's height/weight development over years, and they only become concerned if the kid deviates from the curve. 10-year-olds of the same height vary significantly in weight depending on their build. Granted, if your child is 200 pounds, that's clearly not healthy, but around 100 seems fine to me.
But, once again, talk to your doctor about it.
