People like you perplex and sadden me. Do you ever think about how your lack of initiation can affect a friend or family member, and what clear message it sends?

Maybe she thinks you don't want her to?

In my family, younger generations call the older.

Why is this an issue?

Be grateful. Lol. And make a schedule to call her that works for you. It's just the way some people are.

And this way you'll model for your kids talking to your parents. And they'll talk to you when they're adults

You should be appreciative of this mindset. That way you can control when you call vs feeling like you are hurting her feelings if you can’t talk when she calls. I don’t understand why you think this is a hardship.

In my family, the culture is the younger generation calls the older. My husband calls his mom every sunday morning. It's better this way, OP, because you can time the calls when it's convenient for you, and you guys are likely busier or right in the middle of something than she is.

Why is it a big deal? If you choose to be insulted, that is on you. She's always been this way; it's clearly not personal.

Ever. I have been with my husband for 18 years, and I can count on maybe one hand the number of times she has ever called.

Please, someone, explain this mentality to me. We all have a good relationship and there is no odd baggage. We just have to reach out, every. damn. time. When we were DINKs, it was fine, but now that we have two young kids, it seems almost insulting.
