I wonder when should parents register for summer camp on the safe side? To ensure camp not canceled, not closed and in person?

Will parents do not care much about early bird registration special just in case things go south?

My kids' sleep away camps just opened registration for next summer, along with a list of changes they are contemplating making and testing requirements. With a year to plan and more time to see how covid spreads among groups of kids, it's easier than last summer. Plus, if they don't open this summer, they will go bankrupt, so they are making compromises that they may not have been willing to make last summer, when we thought this would be temporary.

Camp professional here. I think most will open, but expect a slightly different timeline for registration. This might be great news for some of you, really! We typically open registration in early January and I have heard we are not alone in shifting a little later.

There will be camps. Like I told my kids, we're all getting better at dealing with this pandemic. The camps will have had a whole year to prepare and make plans. They won't be caught unawares (as we all were) like last year.

I plan on sending my two to Scout overnight camps, and some day camps here and there. They may look different than they did in 2019, but I'm confdent there will be some sort of camps.

+1. If they were open in summer 2020, they'll definitely be open be for 2021.

The problem is it might not be sustainable for them to work with all the restrictions. I think they are trying to figure it out now.

100% opening.

I think they will reopen but I would not put a deposit down! Some might just go out of business/think it’s not worth it with all the regulations/we can have more regulations in place etc.

Landon Summer is planning to open with a variety of options (including short notice cancellations with full refund as per this year).

Their program goes up next month and registration is sometime in January.

Even sleep away camps that took sensible precautions did fine. I am optimistic for this summer.

There will be camps, OP. Maybe, not an indoor basketball camp at UMD my kid loved so much but there will be outdoor-based options.

What’s the odds that in person summer camp will be open this summer? Let’s glare into our crystal balls..

I’m trying to figure out if it’s even worth putting a deposit down for 2021...
