Well, my marriage isn't interracial but DH's sister married rich and we have to endure SIL's side of the family for Thanksgiving. Anyway, I'm from a Eastern European country and every single friggin' year I encounter that rich old fart, who is my SIL's MIL (I guess I'm related to her now too, aren't I??) she starts this story about her nail technician from Ukraine who is such a sweetheart and a hard worker. I'm not from Ukraine, and I am a professional who has an MBA. WTF?
Oh, and fwiw, these people are limousine liberals. I don't like Trump myself, but the irony isn't lost on me.

My Russian cousin goes through the same thing with her W. European husband’s family. Every time they tell her that she’s lucky
he rescued her. They met at work, a prestigious financial institution in the US, and she was several levels above him. She’s good sport and finds the remarks hilarious.

A "friend" joked that my Asian-American husband must have a small penis. 🙄

I'm white; my wife is South Asian. When we announced the wedding, my grandmother wrote me a letter calling my wife a monkey. That was lovely. She was a bitter, old, friendless person. Apparently about three days before she passed she started acting like a lovely, sweet woman. We all assumed it was a series of microstrokes that led up to the major stroke that caused her to shuffle off her mortal coil ...

My Grandma told my mother and I one day that different races should not marry.

She paused for a minute then said to my mother: "Of course I didn't mean you specifically, dear".

My white European mother had been married to my Asian father for decades at that point.
I was 12 years old.
Now I'm 40, and I remember that exchange as if it was yesterday.

A few years later, my mother's siblings complained that she didn't lift a finger to help her mother in her old age. She did contribute her share of the money, but she didn't invite her into her home to stay for long periods of time, like her sisters did.

Some things cannot be forgotten.
