Because it is like letting Coke regulate Pepsi as long as it recuses from Coke. Matters affecting the charter sector generally can still be an opportunity to influence policy in favor of KIPP.

Public health, including COVID, is the job of the city. Not federal. And the city has done a good job keeping covid rates down, implementing mask mandates, and contract tracing. The change in administration should not make a difference. The fact is, the hysteria about covid and schools was never linked to actual conditions on the ground in DC.

This, and as European countries show, even with good leadership the virus can keep spreading.

Of course those same countries also show you can still have school safely, but that's a different question. Maybe Trump - hopefully! - being gone will make the issue less political and thereby raise chances of schools opening? That's my hope, at least.

Why would it impact anything?

The mayor isn't up for reelection until 2022. The rest is peripheral.

We might get some interesting oversight from Janeese Lewis George. I wouldn't be surprised to see some squad-style energy from her.

The important races for education and reopening schools should be Council and SBOE but none of the candidates positions are strong on reopening.
