A candidate for Governor in Maryland only needs to win Montgomery, PG, Howard, Baltimore City and Charles Counties in order to be elected in the state.

Land doesn’t vote, people do.

It's people like this who look at he county map the Trump campaign keeps pumping out and become convinced that a GOP candidate can't lose, and when he does, that voter fraud is rampant.

There are 24 counties in MD. MoCo, PG, Baltimore city and Baltimore county have 56% of the population of Maryland. MoCo is hte largest with over 1 million residents, and has the same population as the 15 smaller counties combined!

You could ask the same question about most blue states, pretty much. Cities and suburbs vote blue, rural areas vote red. Rural areas take up more counties in numbers and acreage on a map, but cities and suburbs are population centers.

Population density, OP. Overwhelmingly most Marylanders live in MoCo, PG, Howard, and Baltimore City/County. That's what determines elections.
