+1. I have honed marble, and if you look at it at the right angle, you can see some etching, but it doesn’t bother me. It just looks natural. I can’t get over the fake look of quartz.

I do think one issue with natural stone is that different stones, even from the same quarry, will have different mineral composition and characteristics. PP mentioned marble chipping, but I’ve never had an issue with that. Some marble, for example, has more iron and will rust if exposed to water. That’s why you’ll see some people who love their natural stone and others who say “never again.” It is a bit of a crap shoot.

All the quartz options look so fake though.

I have MSI quartz and think it requires some baby-ing so clearly I am not a person to ask . My point being that one person’s idea of maintenance is another’s idea of maintenance free ...

Granite holds up the best and is the easiest to maintain.

I would not do Quartzite pain in the neck. Marble is beautiful but again pain.

Quartz is very pretty and good for lighter color kitchens.

We just did a renovation and replace granite with granite. We are hard on things and I couldn’t get past the thought of staining and chipping and not putting hot pans down right on the counter.

We did just put a dark brown marble in our bathroom and love it there, but different level of use.

I had quartzite and had no problems. It was sold to me as an alternative to granite because granite mainly comes in warmer shades but can get quartzite in cooler colors. This time around I went with quartz (man made) and it’s fantastic. While I didn’t have etching issues, the quartz is carefree and looks great, too.

I'm curious about this too. I've done marble, which I love, but it has to be babied. Staining and etching doesn't bother me. It's the chipping on edges that I don't like.

Does Quartzite chip?

We have had quartzite countertops for about 4 or 5 years. It looks beautiful and I don't regret it.

You do need to be a little careful, the only thing is really not to leave red wine stains without cleaning them up. We have left it once or twice overnight and it stains a little, but if you rub it a lot you can get rid of almost all of it.

If you want your kitchen to look perfect and don't want to have to be careful, it may not be the way to go, but it was worth it for me.

Quartz looks fake but is on trend and more durable. Quartzite and marble are beautiful natural stone but will stain and etch even when super careful. Depends on your lifestyle. If you have kids I would definitely go with quartz.

I had quartzite in last kitchen and it etched. It was gorgeous but I wouldn’t get it again.

The only quartz I really liked was London Gray by Caesarstone. Still love it now that it’s all over our kitchen!

Kitchen remodel starts in 5 weeks and I still haven’t picked our kitchen countertops. I really like the look of quartzite over quartz but I am worried about staining. I do not want to have to baby my counters. I’m sure I’d be fine with quartz but I just can’t find anything I really love.
