This too. Unlike much of the NE where snow days are business per usual, DC shuts down for a coating of ice or more. Should there be a winter storm event that would truly warrant winter tires, you would have no where to go even if you wanted to.

It's not common here. Cars sold in this area have all-weather tires, which isn't as good, but sufficient for the few snows we get per winter. Just stay at home and wait for the plows.

Now if you're an essential worker who has to report in (hospital, etc), different story.

I do too. Bought in 2016 (as the year's prior we had some snow every year), but after 2016 it never or rarely snowed so could have done w/all-seasons......but I'll put the winter tires as soon as temp nears 34F or so.

No. If the weather was such that I needed them, I probably shouldn't be on the road. I'm not an essential worker.

I'm from Boston and I hate people that think they should be on the road during a big storm. Just stay home and leave the road for the plows, first responders, and essential workers.

No need in DC but could be useful for your Mass trips.

If you have set dates for going to MA and will go even if the weather is awful, it's definitely nice to have winter tires.

Do you put winter tires on if you live in the D.C. area?

I have all-season tires on right now, and on one hand winter tires seem marginally useful in D.C. but on the other hand it can get icy and slushy here and I take at least one or two road trips during the winter to Massachusetts.
