My DS is a wild sleeper too. We started with a mattress on the ground but would find him in the morning rolled up in a corner of the room. We have two of these from when Crate and Kids was still Land of Nod and they’re sturdy and attractive. DD has been in hers since 2.5 and is now in elementary school. They are simple and will go with any bedding she might choose in the future. We didn’t use bed rails and other than a few falls at the beginning that DD slept through the height hasn’t been an issue.

I'm the SUNDVIK poster. It has little borders that prevent the kid from falling out.

We also happen to have the Hemnes daybed. It's awesome for guests but it's not that easy to pull out the trundle (it's ok every once in a while but I wouldn't want to do it every day).

This was a great transition from the crib for our toddler, and it has lasted through two moves (surprisingly). We bought an extra twin mattress and use it with the trundle pulled out for guests, too. Definitely recommend....IF you can find it in stock at Ikea.

We used a pool noodle under the fitted sheet.

Thanks! Yeah, I am concerned about her potentially rolling out of a bed. Maybe we could get bed rails and just take them off when she gets a little older?

My DS has been in a twin bed since he was 18 months old when we moved into our forever house. DH told me he was done taking apart and reassembling the crib/toddler bed. I bought rails that flip down and took them off when he was 3.

My kid was night potty trained early, so I got him a good full size quality mattress & just put it on floor by 3. He is a roller, and I put pillow & blankets around him. I did the same thing for my toddler, but I get her a twin size mattress & put it on floor. Once they are older & not a roller anymore, I will go set nice headboard & frame.

Just get any full or twin size bed, depending on space. Mine has a full which is nice for bedtime snuggles, but not worth cramming a too big bed in a small bedroom. You'll presumably have the bed until she leaves the house, so just get an adult bed that you'll want to live with for the next 20 years.

One thing to consider is if she's a roller. If she could roll off the bed, look for ones that are lower to the ground. I know a kid that broke a coller bone rolling 2 feet off the bed.

DD just turned 4 and I think it’s finally time for a new bed. She’s been in a toddler bed that was converted from her crib.

We’re looking for something fairly simple that she can get some good use out of in the years to come.

What have you bought for your kids that you like? We got her crib from Pottery Barn and it’s lasted really well, so we may go there first, but would love any other recs.
