OP here. It actually is the MDX as a pp mentioned. I just can’t decide if I’d rather have the “deal” or a newer looking car for longer because we keep cars a long time (at least 8 years.)

Absolutely yes, if that model has features and details you really want. If you're anything like me, they're bound to discontinue the particular features you wanted in the redesign. (I seem to have that effect on major consumer items, just by wishing.) And as previous posters said, you can get a much more accurate sense of the model's reliability and any issues after it's been out for a few years.

I’m not loving the 2021 Tahoe either, but the 2020 already looks dated.

did that with DWs subaru... loved the car and the deal.

if you like the way the car looks, whats the big deal. that the next model look different. Unless you like the way the next model looks.

I did this once and got an incredible price.

Nay except if its a really good deal. And, wait till at least the second model year.

This - I needed a new Acadia but didn’t like the redesign for 2017, and also I don’t like getting the first model year after the redesign. So I got a 2016 with 15K miles on it instead and saved a boatload.

It's a good deal, and they've worked out the "bugs" that crop up with cars since it's been around a few years. That's why I never buy the first year of a new version of the car. Always 2nd year or later. You'll see they made "only minor updates" in year 2.. that's to fix all the issues that came up.

If it matters to you, don't do it. Do it if a car is just an appliance to you.

I wouldn’t but I hate driving outdated cars. It’s one reason that I will not get the 2020 mdx.

But this wouldn’t bother a lot of people, especially if they got a great deal on the older car.

What matters to you, OP?

I’ve always heard that the first year of a new design is more likely to have issues because they haven’t figured it all out yet, I don’t know if this is still true or maybe it just applies to the GM and Ford vehicles my parents always bought.
