I don’t see how it will be much different for the kids at home on a computer. Sometimes they’re looking at the teacher, sometimes they’re looking at a Google slide, sometimes they’re doing independent work, sometimes they’re in a breakout room. If that’s working for you now, great.

You think it's worse than 3 asynch days, I think it's better. Either way, it's not 5 days full time.

When that happens, we'll both be happy.

They would essentially be teaching themselves. It’s already not great but at least having classes 4x a week is a little better.

They are of course also found it this way because it allows them to provide instruction to the group that selects “virtual” without having a separate cadre of teachers.

I’m not at all convinced they will actually return to school this year but I can see this is the only real option. This is what other schools including private are doing.

At the ES level it simplifies many things. One lesson plan for all students in a grade level, twice the material covered in a week. Hybrid plus DL is actually a lot more work. Concurrent instruction is not a new thing. It can be done well, even for young kids. And it’s better than only having two days a week with a teacher, compared to the four people have right now.

Agree. I don’t want my child having to log in and watch a classroom. Talk about boring. I would much rather have my child working on independent work. I think the 2 days at home with concurrent instruction will be FAR worse than DL now.

Some people want it and would benefit from it, you can probably work something out, as long as your kid isn’t falling behind. Teacher won’t mind have fewer kids in class lol.

You can, just like people are now. Just do morning meeting and check out. Do your assignments.

Because they hadn’t proved that the DL delivery could work yet. Now they have, and parents don’t want three asynch days a week. It’s half the education.

I disagree. I think of a teacher can handle 20-30 kids online she can definitely handle having a third of them with her in class at the same time. Smaller online cohort is easier, and she will have eyes on everyone else. Many other benefits. This is being done at other schools successfully, don’t believe the excuses.

The two days at home now are going to be worse than asynchronous ever would be. And way worse than current DL where teacher is focusing on all kids virtual. This is awful.

The only reason they are doing this plan is they couldn’t make anything else work logistically.
I don’t think it has anything to do with SOLs

DL is going well for us. We were on board with the initial hybrid plan that included 3 asynchronous days. At least that would be a break from virtual slides and presentations by the teachers. Kids would actually have time to complete work. I don’t like this new concurrent plan because it short changes both groups. I don’t think it’s worth the risk to send my kid in for 2 days, only to have the teacher trying to deal with both the virtual and in class kids simultaneously. This is totally ridiculous and will be a disaster. The only reason they have moving to this new plan is because SOLs aren’t waived. They need 4 days of instruction to even attempt the SOLs. Anyone agree?
