My mom cooks on the weekend and also takes my oldest kid for a day. When i pick the kid up we usually get soup for a couple days and an entree for the kids lunches for the week. It started when i was pregnant with the second and really out of energy and she just kept going. I always say not to bother but she enjoys it and we have long conversations about the menu for the kids before she goes shopping. Sometimes they come over for dinner and bring the food with them. Sometimes we go over and bring food. If i'm at the store, ill check of they need something. We dont keep score on who did what. My grandmother did the same for my mom too and I'll pitch in with grandkids and cooking when my daughters are older if they dont mind.

Never, however I bring my mother a home cooked meal about once a week and my in laws several times a month.

My kids are in college, DD is closer. With the cafeteria situation being what it is, I do bring her a cooked meal and buy her groceries on Fridays or on the weekend. I don't give her much money, as in the past she drank too much. I did none of it last year when she had a full meal plan. DS came home for the weekend, dh is back from deployment, and I made him a pasta dish and some chicken and rice to take back.
Both seem to like me doing this and appreciate it. How do I make sure when they have a partner I am not being intrusive?

I don't know anyone here that does this.Nobody has ever cooked for my family and brought us food.
However, when I was much, much younger I used to bring meals to DH's grandparents a couple of times per month. I also used to make work lunches for FIL when he became a widower. I also would buy wegman's sushi or meals and bring them to a friend when she was in a hospital long term. Is this not common in the U.S? Did I do something intrusive with these meals?
This is something common in my culture, my sister's ILS bring them food. Sister and DH dislike this so much, as his mom can't cook at all. And everything she makes is fried and desserts. They are trying to lose weight. Her ILS are obese, both. With myriad of health issues, most due to their weight.

Between my mom and MIL they have made us exactly 1 home cooked meal in 18 years.

My dad loves to cook. When we lived far away and my parents came to visit, they would make dinner most nights and filk our freezer with meals for the future. Now, we live close and my dad will make a big batch of something every week or two and bring some by or have us come get it.

That is not a common thing, except when there are life events like a birth, sickness, or death.

They don’t bring me food, but I go to their house and pick up a meal about once every two weeks.

Just when our babies were born. Dh and I are plenty capable of cooking for ourselves.

Never. My mom would not bring us anything even if we were on our death beds.

Never. They instead invite themselves to our place frequently and expect to be fed.

And I would totally offer to do it for my own kids someday, but only if it seemed like they actually wanted it, which I could see going either way since families have their own ways of eating and dietary preferences.
