People often think I’m cold and aloof when receiving bad news. In reality, I’m very uncomfortable being vulnerable in front of others and prefer to dissect bad news on my own in private. I’m very much feeling, but I don’t allow myself to outwardly show it.

This person is just very transactional. Only speaks negatively about others. Has never shown any emotional or empathy for people going through tough stuff- loss of baby, parents, divorce, cancer, etc.
Doesn’t seem to have any “bond” with people.

Possibly they have been deeply hurt in the past. The walls they put up to protect themselves are tall and think. You and many others are not trusted enough to see their vulnerable side.

I am like this, and I have a number of friends and a dh.

I just don't show my emotions with my family because half are hysterical and the other half can be mean and critical. It's also a result of anxiety I have when I feel emotions (see: dsyfunctional family.)

I have really severe learning disabilities. Basically, if I'm awake and taking in any information my mind is racing to process it in a timely manner, and I'm desperately trying to understand it from a slew of different angles in the hopes one makes sense, and then formulate my answer, reviewing it to make sure it isn't stupid, reviewing it so it's structured to set me up to get an answer I'll (hopefully) understand, etc.

We've discovered when I'm concentrating like that, I have bitchy resting face.

I am like this. At first, I'm in shock.

Then I have my emotions in private because I was encouraged by my parents not to show emotions, and because I honestly don't trust you enough to share my personal feelings with you.

And I'm a more introverted serious person.

Maybe it’s a reaction to people who seem to lack respect for privacy and personal boundaries and who have a tendency to inappropriately pathologist other people’s behavior.

Not everyone is hysterical? Some people may prefer to grieve (and cry) in private? It could be a reflection of the way they were raised? It could be a cultural thing?

Maybe they're really introverted. Maybe they're just like this around you because they don't like you. Maybe they're on the autism spectrum. It's so hard to say without more information.
