This exactly.

This is right answer but I assume they need it NOW b/c of flood??

If they need it immediately, they're going to need to check in with individual owners and just keep asking until someone gives them the answer that they need. We just stayed in our 1st airbnb and I was only looking at ones that claimed to follow the new deeper cleaning checklist protocol... and there was no way that the owner had done that despite claiming they did in their listing. Airbnb has a guide for what that cleaning should entail, including being transparent about process and procedures, so anyone who's legit following the protocol should have that info easily available and should understand the importance of adhering to it if they don't want to get flagged by airbnb or get bad reviews from guests.

We rented a house about four hours from home. We didn't stop on the drive there, and we brought a container of Clorox Wipes. We opened all the windows and turned on all the fans, and then cleaned the entire house with them, top to bottom. We also brought our air purifiers (we have two).

We would not rely on someone else cleaning for us.

We've been frequenting AirBnbs just for fun through the pandemic. We're trying to pick ones that don't have occupancy 24+hours before we get there and using ones that have key pads so we don't have to meet the owner face to face.

We air the place out for a few hours and go for a walk when we get there. Husband goes in with a mask and wipes down all surfaces.

I'm an Airbnb host who has signed on to their enhanced cleaning protocol. I clean the places myself, wearing a mask and gloves and opening all the windows for several hours. Obviously all linens are washed in hot water and all surfaces are disinfected.

I promise you won't get COVID from an Airbnb.

Could you hire a cleaner independently for any Airbnb?

This. Don’t bother messaging owners - they will say whatever and you won’t know if it happened or not. This is more than sufficient.

Sorry about the flood. Sounds stressful. Cleaning is going to be up to the individual owner, so if you locate a good airbnb, message and ask what they're doing. If a place has been empty for a few days, that's good.

Also, if you had to go further, you could pee outside.

Just pay for 2-3 extra nights at the Airbnb and make sure no one enters in that period, and then wipe it down when you move in.

I think airbnb has some hosts that agree to adhere to a higher cleaning standard. I think some also agree to rent out only after leaving vacant for a day or two.

I would also when I get there have you go in with a good mask and eye protection and open all the windows and doors. Let it air out for a good three hours. Then you go in again with a a mask and eye protection and a bottle of alcohol and clean everything you can but especially high touch surfaces. I would use your own linens or wash their thoroughly, including blankets and pillows. For the couches, I would throw sheets over them.

I meant to add. After you clean, I would air out for an hour or so again.

If you crazy high risk, I would rent a place with a nice yard, disinfect one bathroom and the route to it, and sleep in car/camp for a day or two to let fomites expire

For regular high risk, you can just disinfect all surfaces but it’s not fool proof if you miss something and then touch your face.

Aerosols settles after 3 hrs or so

Our house flooded last night, and there is water damage on the first floor, second floor and in the basement. My husband and daughter have health issues that make them really high risk for COVID, and our pediatrician advised at the beginning of COVID to follow the most restrictive quarantine possible (don't leave the house unless absolutely necessary, have groceries delivered and wipe them down with bleach, etc.).

Now he is advising we rent an AirBNB or find some alternative housing, because multiple workers are going to need to be in our house to repair all the damage from the flood. Apparently, AirBNB is doing more thorough cleanings between customers due to the pandemic. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or is there advice for a different way to find housing for a few days while they work? The pediatrician said a hotel would not be safe for us.

My daughters are both in virtual-only school, so we can go anywhere that's drivable, but it can't be too far, because the pediatrician said to avoid a public restroom.

Thanks much.
