Don't do this. Half of the fun is the unwrapping. My 6 and 9 year old daughters have played with their LOL dolls for well over a year. Last weekend on that rainy Saturday, I gave in and bought the OMG dolls. They were around $30 piece. They literally played together from sun up to sun down. They built entire cities and we are now a week into and are still into the toy. If your child is the type to actually play with their toys then do it. It's a pandemic and we all need to bite the bullet when we can to entertain our kids.

DD loves them and has around 20 dolls. OMG, Remix, lights, boys, glitter, fashion, pets and lil sis etc. She's loved them since she was 3 and hasn't lost interest, yet. Her BFF loves them, too.

My girls love them. You can make entire families of them, and they take their favorites everywhere!

LOL dolls are a passing fad. My DD's friends were obsessed with them in 3rd grade, and one girl told my DD (who was always more into stuffed animals than dolls) that she couldn't play with them in the after school program since she didn't have any. Several of my DD's friends had dozens of them, and one generous friend took pity on her for not having any and gave her a few doubles. By fourth grade, they had moved on to other things.

Given that current opportunities for social interaction are limited, I would try to avoid buying any at the moment and see if the desire passes. Instead, buy some fun board games that the family can play together.

Waste. All they care about is the opening reveal.

Get her the purse. Nieces loved them and they put all the pieces in their purses.

Cheap plastic crap everywhere

This. Instant plastic garbage. They play with it once. Huge capsules of plastic you don't know what to do with.

My 9 year old adores them and they have all sorts of adventures. She really doesn’t do too much with the fashion aspects - half the time they are “naked” (but they all have painted-on underwear). Bonus, they can go in the bathtub/swimming pool for more fun. The OMG dolls are pretty expensive compared to Barbies but they are quite good quality. I actually think their bodies are more realistic than many fashion dolls (smaller breasts and larger hips), for what it’s worth. I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to get away with just one for very long but we use them as rewards for saving up up points on reward charts of various sorts and that works quiet well.

My 3 girls love them. At first they just wanted them for the excitement of unwrapping them, but suddenly they played with them constantly-making houses from magnatiles and materials from the recycling bin and having hours-long focused pretend play sessions.

They do come with a lot of trash and tiny pieces. Their outfits are...interesting. Some of them cry, some of them spit, and some of them pee. I really disliked them until my girls actually played with them. My girls are 10, 7, and 5. The 10 yo will say she doesn’t like them but she plays with them plenty!

If they are asking because friends have them, getting one or two LOLs is fun for them to unwrap (the plastic mess everywhere) but if you stop there they will feel included (social currency) and have a doll to play with. I remember some of my favorite toys to play with friends or collect where plastic/tacky and though these LOLs are not my taste I can see the kids have fun with them. I personally draw the line on OMGs which are not as popular and have instagram bodies (wasp waste, huge thighs/bottoms) but my kid asks for those. Its a give and take.

Don’t do it. Just take My word for it.

I'm thinking about getting my 7 year old an LOL doll. Is it worth it? Does it become addictive? What about the LOL OMG dolls?
