OP here. I’m breastfeeding but the doctor said to pump and bottle feed. He also wants us to supplement with formula.

Also, if he stops eating during a feed, sit him up and burp him. Some babies won’t eat if they need to burp.

Change the diaper before the feed. Strip them down a bit, less cozy blankets etc. Tickle their feet.

OP here. The doctor said to aim for 1.5-2 ounces every 2 hours and 2-3 ounces every 3 hours.

I had this problem too and the pediatrician wanted him eating for longer. I kept a damp wash cloth next to me and would gently touch his skin to keep him awake. It was our doctor's advice and it seemed to work. He's 10 now and I wish he slept more and ate less!

We had this problem. One of our kids was a premie and little- we needed to keep him awake to feed so he'd gain weight. They told us to strip him down to a diaper so he'd be cold. Tapping the bottom of the bottle helped too.

My son had trouble gaining weight because he'd always fall asleep while nursing. Try lightly tickling his foot, cheek, or under his chin. Or remove the breast/bottle and if he fusses, offer it back. I alternated methods until his weight gain was enough.

Id just go with it. He’s still in the fourth trimester. It’s okay if he eats frequent but small amounts. Being born is tiring - let him rest!

How to keep two week old baby awake to eat? He doesn’t get full feeds because he falls asleep ( both on breast and bottle). Any advice is helpful.
