I’m a PP. my first induction was due to PROM, so that wasn’t elective. My second induction was elective - I am AMA and had no interest in going beyond my due date, plus lining up childcare for older DD during a pandemic proved to be a challenge. It was much easier to schedule induction, arrange for my parents to take her, and hope I made it to the date without going into labor.

I love my inductions (have had a natural birth never doing that purposely again)

why would you choose an induction?

hit send too soon-- i also had some spotting which ended up being my mucus plug, not spotting from the cervical check.

I believe that with my first the cervical check went a little wrong and turned into a mini membrane sweep (accidental). I went into labor 12 hrs after my "check" at 37 weeks.

Cervix checks are very important to determine the bishop score and if induction will have a good outcome.

My labor started 24 hours after cervical check. Maybe would have happened anyway. But knowing I was already 4 cm at that time was helpful in getting to hospital quicker.

No it's not. For someone who is having an induction they need to know the bishop score, especially dilation and effacement. It is predictive of success with the induction drugs.

I had a cervical check the day before my induction, where we learned my cervix was very favorable, and I could skip the cervical ripening and just start the induction with pitocin. Less time in a hospital during a pandemic and one less night away from home and my older DD.

They aren't always pointless!

Why are you being induced?

Had my 39 week cervix check yesterday and have an elective induction scheduled for Monday. After the check, I’ve noticed a lot more discharge streaked with blood. Could the cervix check have stirred things up? Family comes tomorrow to watch our older children and wondering if I should have them come today instead.
