It's annoying AF.

Weed users need to be ostracized as much as cigarette smokers. My right to breathe unpolluted air supercedes your personal choice. We also don't tolerate open drinking. Tired of DC reeking of weed everywhere.

I see the Chicken Little dimwits who populate the Popville comments section have found DCUM. Welcome.

The people living on the 17th street were visibly high when the kids are walking past them on their way to the neighborhood school until they got tents. Now they just do their drugs in the tents. Way to go, DC.

Hey Karen, the OP gives this as an example of many incidents. It is clear drugs have become a major problem in the city. Many more drug crimes and incidents. The Post also does not publish a tiny fraction of what actually goes on.

If you want the truth, read the police threads where they describe briefs of crime. It is a major eye opener.

Of course if you live in GT or most of NW, you are not going to see as much.

Also noticed police officers are now being paid to just sit in their cars and fiddle with their phones. Especially the case after some crime activity. They just sit there, doing nothing while people are running lights etc.

Yay and imagine how much better this will be if Prop 81 passes and we get a flood of new hallucinogens in DC ...

Personally I think this is due to increases supply of drugs on the market. We started noticing it when K2 became more prevalent. Sometimes new drug markets pop up in your neighborhood, which means you’ll see more people OD’ing or off their faces on drugs.

I was on 14th and U street intersection looking at my phone and a police officer standing nearby told me to put it away because somebody would probably try to steal it. I was like... uuuh, aren't you supposed to arrest people like that? Where should I be using my phone if not right next to a police officer?

Open pot smoking has gone through the roof since it was 'decriminalized'.

I've noticed this too @ 14th and T St NW recently. Right in front of the Harrison Playground. I imagine they are on H, as these people are either passed out in their cars or on the sidewalk.

Sounds like they were reading the news. That's how I feel most days.

Seriously though, drug use has been a problem in DC for a long time. Like, people running naked in the street. How do you know it's increasing?

Maybe we could do more if we really treated it as a public health crisis.

Last night, we had a car stop near our house and the man was pounding himself and yelling like an animal. We were not sure if there was someone else in the car and someone was being beaten or not, but we called the police (who never showed up of course). We suspected it was drugs.

We have been seeing more and more people inebriated, on drugs, hallucinating, shooting up etc. Some really scary incidents where people seem completely out of control yelling and hitting things. This is not even talking about the rampant public marijuana use which the police, mayor, and Councilmembers have decided not to enforce (YES it is still illegal to smoke in public).

Has anyone noticed a pattern here in DC of increased public drug use?
