Liriope is kind of dark for a shady area. What about something chartreuse? I just did a combo of loropetalum and fire chief thuja along our front walkway -- granted, that may be a sunnier spot than what you describe. Could also look at sunshine ligusturm, lime nepeta, japanese forest grass maybe?

Looking to edge a walk that gets a range of full to partial shade, sloping steps with heavy soil. Can be watered as needed but I would prefer something that is drought tolerant. Any alternative ideas would be welcome!

It works around our walkway - goes crazy in other parts of our yard though! I do believe it is a good time to plant it. It self seeds from berries at this time of year. You do want to have a solid border between grass and line of liriope that you keep edged (but we only do this edging with spring clean up) to keep if from spreading.

For the love of god, don't do this. Even the "clumping" liriope spreads, and birds will spread the seeds. It's invasive in this area. It's really a PITA to try to reign it in after a couple of years, and you'll have seedlings popping up where you don't want them. If you post your conditions (sun/shade, dry/wet, etc.) I'll try to suggest something else.

I would like to plant a walkway border with monkey grass. Will this have to wait until spring or can I squeeze in the project this weekend?
