My favorite sandwich ever was at a deli in Sag Harbor, NY.

My favorite sandwich in DC was from a deli on Wisconsin Avenue near Fannie Mae.

Corned beef & Swiss on marble rye. With mayo. It’s the best.

At home, my best sandwiches are BLT’s with homegrown tomatoes.

Also, any fried egg sandwich. A basic egg salad sandwich or homemade chicken salad (with grapes! No celery!) on good bread is satisfying too.

In Spain, on a typical ham and cheese , they would toast the baguette and then rub half a roma tomato in the inside, so there would be tomato essence inside. The ham was serrano. Not sure of the cheese type.

Every single sandwich I've ever had from Zingerman's Deli in Ann Arbor has been the best sandwich I've ever had.
The most recent was a Tarb's Tenacious Tenure, so that's currently the best sandwich I've ever had.

Homemade: honey, brie, dijon and apple grilled cheese with texas toast or fresh mozz, prosciutto, roma tomatoes and pesto on a nice chewy italian bread

Does anyone know where you can get Dutch Crunch bread in DC? I think I've never seen it outside of CA.

I started growing it alfalfa sprouts just so that I can have them fresh on a avocado, turkey, and cheese sandwich. Perfection.

I also love a really good Cuban sandwich. Not sure where to find one around here though!

Add honey mustard and brie to your regular turkey sandwich. Even better if you have a crusty roll to put it all on.

I love an Italian beef sandwich with au jus from from Chicago. Nice crunchy bread and super hot. It's a little like a French Dip except the beef is shaved and seasoned Italian style. Man, I could go for one of those right now.

Best I’ve ever had is a lobster salad grinder.
Best I’ve ever made is ham on buttered French bread with Brie - heated in the oven until the Brie melts just a little bit.

I always love a good Reuben, especially in the fall, and they're pretty easy to make at home.

But the best sandwich I ever had was a panini from some random small café in Rome. I don't even know what was on it - good meats and cheese, sure, and a hard boiled egg, and maybe some olive tapenade of some kind along with other veggies, all on some fluffy crispy toasted bread.

Closer to home, I think it's Little Red Fox that used to have a grilled cheese with cheddar and apple butter, and maybe arugula?, that was surprisingly good too.

I guess what I'm saying is I like a grilled sandwich. So that is my recommendation.

I've fallen into a sandwich rut and I'm looking for inspiration - what's the best sandwich you've ever had/made? What type of bread was it? I'd love some recommendations on something other than just deli meat, lettuce, tomato and condiments. Thanks!
