NP. Do they have a resources program for kids with minor learning differences?

Some may not know it is a public university given its name. I would think it would be a great, affordable option for ME kids who want a small private "look and feel" for a public price. A girl from my dad's h.s. Rowing team went there from an elite private here + loved it.

My son loved it too. He would have definitely attended if they had his major!

My daughter visited, loved it, but ultimately ended up choosing an LAC out of state. Most LACs are in similarly remote locations and would appeal to kids who are interested in these types of schools.

My DD is currently a senior at SMCM. What do you want to know? She has loved her time there, made some wonderful friends, had really great professors, gotten involved in research, had 2 internships, and been very active in clubs etc. She’s had friends that have graduated and gone on to get very nice jobs, attend veterinarian school, and at least one joined the Peace Corps.

Location: just like any school, some students are going to like it, others aren’t. For those that like a very self-contained campus where most students live on campus for all 4 years and like being right on the water, it is a great fit. Obviously, it wouldn’t appeal to someone who wants to be in a city. It is about 90 minutes to DC and pre-Covid, the school organized trips to DC and NYC.

Have a friend who son is on the sailing team there, he seems to like it. St. Mary’s itself is charming.

Yeah, but 4 years is a long time

I live in Southern MD and take my son to St. Mary's for events or to just walk around all the time. It's such a pretty campus and the students we have met and talked to have been wonderful. We stumbled into an architectural dig one day and they let him help them with digging and scouring for items from the site.
It is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but I can see how that would appeal to some people. If you like being on the water, boating, and outdoor activities it would appeal to you.

Its the wrong place to ask about St.Mary's. DCUMERS look down on St.Marys as well as schools like UMBC/GMU/CNU/VCU etc.

OP my DD is considering it as well. Our major concern is a lack of diversity and career recruitment. St.Marys' and other small schools focus is getting kids into grad schools.

My best friend sent both of her kids there. Both kids loved the school, they seem to have gotten great educations and both are successful. These are recent graduates. Interesting to note, her kids are very different personalities but both thrived at the school.

DC is considering it for chemistry. Junior, so no SAT scores yet. 4.0 GPA so far with as many honors classes as his school allows. GPA is unweighted.
