You don't apply anymore. My kid had much higher scores and was waitlisted Eastern and turned down for Takoma.

Unless the magnet exam score is way above the rest of the class, given you’re in a good district, and with these MAP scores, there’s no chance.

There is absolutely no harm in applying for the MS Magnets with those scores. The test they will take for that (CogAT) is going to be more heavily weighted. The MAP scores aren't too different from what my children scored in 5th grade and they both were accepted to Eastern.

OP here - any thoughts on the Eastern humanities program? That's the only one we would probably consider. DD is a strong reader but weaker on writing. DD does love history and humanities subject in general but given her age a good teacher can sway her easily to another direction I'm sure.

She did much better than what I was expecting on MAP given the whole virtual testing lol given the level of effort I was seeing on her other virtual assignments.

The MathSci magnet kids usually have 10 or 20 points on math above the 99th %ile score in Math.

A 231 on math is 92nd percentile; 239 in reading is 98th percentile. Those don't put you out of the running for magnet middle, but there will definitely be kids with higher scores (especially for math). A lot will depend on your home middle school and the cohort of students there.

Lay it on me DCUM, fairly new to the area and my kid scored a 239 on reading and 231 on math just now for MAP. No prep/extra outside of school tutoring and generally above average student but nothing too spectacular.

How are those scores? Are we out of the running for magnet MS (not that interested but curious)? Is my kid doomed for failure? Give me those spicy comments
