So I’ll dissent. My two girls day trained easily and quickly at age 2. They were awesome sleepers so I didn’t want to mess with thar or end up with early wake ups so left them in night diapers. By age 5 or so I became convinced that my children were not peeing while sleeping but rather waking up in the morning, and either feeling lazy or out of habit, peeing in their pull-ups. (I would sneak in 30 minutes before they would usually wake up and feel their pull-ups - DRY.)

So, a few mornings in a row, I’d wake them up early with a dry pull op. Made a big deal and told them it was time to stop pull-ups. We did and it was fine if I kept waking them up. When I let them sleep, the first few mornings they wet the bed, but eventually realized they needed to go to the bathroom in the morning and not just pee in the bed. It was a week of a lot of laundry, and then it was over.

My 6.5 yo was incredibly easy to potty train as a toddler and has never had daytime accidents barring 1-2 in the first week of training. However, kid is a very deep sleeper and still uses a pullup overnight that is heavy in the morning. I ask our pediatrician about this at every well visit and it has not yet been an issue of concern.

Op here - appreciate all of the insights. I swear every time my parents visit I start questioning from I am doing enough to try to help her and second guess myself. Really helps to hear perspective from other parents who struggled with this. Thank you!

I have new 9 yr old boy who was night trained. We started with waking him up twice a night but couldn't pinpoint the ideal times to get him up. We switched to a wearable alarm that had audio and vibration modes. We used the vibration only mode because the alarm scared him and woke up his sibling in the next room. It took a while but it eventually worked. Fast forward to January 2020 and he started very slowly reverting to wetting the bed. We are now at the junction where DH has to wake him up about 1.5 after DS goes to bed to avoid a wet bed in the morning. DS insists that he doesn't need this help, but DH has fallen asleep a couple of times and forget to get DS, which resulted in a wet bed. There is nothing medically wrong with him. He was an incredibly difficult kid to potty train. He had accidents for way longer than he should have. He was one of those kids that preferred to wait until the last second to go or keep playing instead of going potty.

I wet the bed until I was 10. I think I am a pretty normal adult now. I think it's best to normalize it and to keep providing the pull-ups or a pad to make it less messy and so it's something he can take care of independently because it can get embarrassing as he gets older.

My youngest wet the bed occasionally until he was at least 8.

My cousin (a deep sleeper) wet the bed until she was at least 12. She is now a normal, married adult (who doesn't wet the bed).

Thank you for posting. My 10 yo still wets the bed. Posts like yours give me hope!

6 year old has a wet pull up every night. Pediatrician says it will stop once his body is ready.

Another 5 year old here who is wet every night. We use pull ups. We also do a dream pee - and he still pees in the pull up in addition to the dream pee! It's frustrating but I'm not sure there's anything that can be done except waiting and encouraging.

My 8 year old still wets the bed every single night. He wears the good nites underwear to bed usually, but every few months he wants to try underwear. We will go a few weeks of normal underwear, but he is never dry in the morning.

He is a very deep sleeper and the pediatrician has never been concerned, but he is reaching the age where it bothers him more and more. He just asked recently if we could try a bed wetting alarm, so we are going to give that a try.

This.

Get a bed wetting alarm.

My kid is 7.5 and still wakes up wet every day. You can drive yourself nuts but you can’t hurry her body into maturity.

You didn’t fail her anymore than you will have failed her if she doesn’t get boobs until 16. Hormones are going to do what hormones are going to do.

DS is 8 and is finally down to only an occasional accident. I know he has classmates in the same boat because we have talked as parents. Buy the washable pee pads and put them under her sheet. Use night time underwear. She’ll grow out of it.

Please don’t flame me - looking for advice on how to tackle night time potty training for my 5.5 year old. I always thought it would naturally happen but it never did and I feel like I screwed up. I have tried eliminating drinks after dinner, putting underwear on before her diaper, and even got one of those alarms but that only trained me to wake up, not her. She is a pretty deep sleeper - my husband had tried putting her in the potty before he goes to bed, and she just sat there sleeping.

Any suggestions from those who have successfully navigated this? Do I just keep waiting and someday it’ll work itself out, or is that doing her a disservice. Thanks!
