Clean twice a day. Occasionally change out ALL the litter. And put it -if you can- in a place where you won't smell it. Ours is in the basement.

You can’t get rid of the smell. People who say their litter doesn’t smell have just grown used to it.

Dogs are much better.

Cats are adorable but unless you have a place far away where you can store their litter box (like the water heater room in our basement like we did), I wouldn't get one

I have been to many apartments that just reek of cat litter. Embarrassing

PP here. You didn't mention how often you're changing the whole box, but given that you have two cats using one box, I'd recommend using plastic litter liners so that twice a week, you can bag the whole thing and start fresh. If you still smell urine (is that what you're smelling?) after you've completely cleaned the box, a black light would help you discover if one of your cats missed the box one day. If that happened, Nature's Miracle should get rid of the smell.

Op here. We use tidycats multi cat and have always had the one large litter box. We are very clean people and have never noticed a cat smell until recently. I smell while near the room. We cleaned the carpets and they dont seem to be peeing anywhere but the box. Not sure what has changed. They have 2 water bowls and an open/ clean toilet in a bathroom we don't use regularly.

Run a dehumidifier close by. I find it helps keep the air fresh and it dries the litter out faster.

Not trying to be funny, but you say that you have just started "recently noticing the smell" after 8 years?. I'm sure the smell has always been there.

The only thing I can recommend is cleaning the littler boxes more often.

What kind of litter are you using? We use Fresh News which is recycled paper. No smell. And I have a super sensitive nose.
