This. I have looked at stationary bikes for my husband as a gift, as he's an avid cyclist but it can be hard for him to get out on his bike November through March. Everyone keeps recommending Peloton to me, but the idea of spending that much on a bike only to then force him to pay for a monthly subscription in order to get full use of it seems so dumb to me. I'm just going to buy him a really nice stationary bike that doesn't also require him to sign up for something. I don't get it.

I seriously don't understand the appeal. There are lots of fitness apps and videos, that don't require such an expensive purchase on top of monthly fees. It seems asinine to me, unless you have loads and loads of disposable income. I love fitness, but I really just don't get the obsession whatsoever.

I think it’s for people with bad knees/joints. Cardio sitting down is better for them.

I prefer the more full-body workout of a rowing machine, and I am perfectly well motivated to use it without paying for electronic company while I do so.

I like indoor biking, but I prefer trainer road or zwift and for the price of a peloton, I can get something that fits me better with a more accurate power meter

I’ve tried several Peloton classes at the Peloton at hotel gyms and I find the incredibly boring. Cycling is never my favorite exercise but I have to be immersed in a loud studio with other people to find it remotely motivating. I greatly prefer having more of a variety in my workout.

Because I have a 1200 sq ft house.
Even if I had a large house, and wanted an exercise bike (which I don't!), then I would buy one without a membership attached.

I just don't understand it. I understand it has a very cult following, but I truly do not understand the appeal. If you love your peloton, that's great, this thread is not for you. There are tons of peloton-loving threats. But for those of us that just cannot, do not, at all, understand the appeal... why? Have you tried it?
For me, I:
- don't want to sit down any more than I already do. If I'm going to do cardio, it better be upright.
- I STRONGLY prefer to be outside. Run, walk, stairs, classes, etc. Summer is a struggle, but any other time of year I'd much rather be outdoors.
- I like classes, but I connect with the energy of an in-person class. It makes me slightly competitive, and I like seeing what other people are doing, being able to see their struggle as I'm struggling - we're all in it together. Even if there are hiccips in a class as there are sometimes, I like experiencing those hiccups with others, in person.
- would rather buy a whole new workout wardrobe and 15 pairs of new sneakers, than spend that kind of money on an indoor piece of equipment.
