Op did it get better? I am the last poster, mine is still having a hard time, usually ok on first boob but very fussy on and off on the second. And she won’t take a bottle sigh. She has reflux so that might be some of it.

My guess would be a forceful letdown.

I'm suspecting gas. Whenever my kid would start to nurse then stop/fuss and repeat it was usually time for a big burp. Also, pay attention to whether she does it consistently on one side vs. another. Ear infections are a common reason kids get fussy nursing on one side.

Maybe your milk let down is too forceful. Or the second let down doesn’t come quick enough and baby is hungry

This was my experience too.

We actually had a funny pattern when he was around this age where he would cry and fuss if I tried to nurse him to sleep at night, but then he'd wake up 45 minutes exactly after, eat a full meal, and then get a good stretch.

My DS suddenly stopped nursing at 2 months. He would only nurse well if he was almost asleep. I saw a lactation consultant 3 times, had a tongue and lip tie clipped, saw a GI doctor and eliminated dairy, gluten and eggs from my diet, and saw a speech language pathologist who diagnosed a sensory processing disorder and gave us exercises where we were brushing him with a corn brush. None of this helped. We finally went to a feeding clinic when he was around 3 months old and he was diagnosed with dysphagia, a swallowing disorder. When he drank milk, he didn't close off his wind pipe and some milk went into his lungs and he was choking. This made him afraid to nurse.

This progressed into a feeding aversion that was hell for two months. He would only eat after he had been rocked to sleep. I could not longer nurse him because he would refuse to latch, so we had to bottle feed pumped milk. He would scream and cry if he even saw a bottle or a boob. It was all terrible.

Around 6 months, he matured enough that he was swallowing properly and not choking. He was still afraid to eat, but we found that showing him a YouTube video of kids songs was distracting enough for him to be able to take a bottle. (Terrible to show a baby YouTube kids videos, I know, but we were desperate and it worked!)

Some signs of the swallowing disorder that we saw were a raspy chest sound that our ped mistook for a cold; white boogers; feeding aversion/fed best while asleep; weight gain stalled at 2 months.

I wanted to share this information because the feeding clinic said that a swallowing disorder is fairly common, but it is often mis-diagnosed. I hope this isn't what your baby has, but just something to keep in mind as you talk to your ped.

She’s probably hungry and frustrated. Try topping off with a few ounces of formula and see what happens.

Sounds like gas pains to me. Check your diet for food that may cause your milk to taste different too.

Honestly, for both my kids, 6-7 minutes was "a long time."

Your baby might also have some gas? Or maybe she is trying to nurse to sleep/comfort nurse but is too full from an earlier session and is upset over her full tummy?

Have you looked into block feeding?

A few things:

1. She might get a full feed in that amount of time. My second son was a very efficient nurser and didn’t need long to feed at all. It was awesome.

2. She might be full or not hungry but still wants to suck and gets frustrated when milk comes out if she really only wants to suck for comfort. Try offering a pacifier (nuk or man are so much better than soothie!)

My 8 week old is just started having a hard time nursing this week. Not every feed, but at least half, will only last a few minutes on each side before she pulls off upset and I have to switch sides. After a few volleys back and forth, she will only latch on for seconds at a time before pulling back, upset. I have no idea what the problem is. She’s probably only staying on 6 or 7 minutes each side, at best. It’s incredibly stressful and frustrating and makes me want to quit bf. Any experience with this?
