The childcare is paid for by parents at a rate similar to what the usual after-school program charges. It has limited spots and they go first to families who have at least one parent that is a true essential worker like a teacher, transit employees or nurses. It only covers regular school hours from 8-3 with no before or after care. The only children I know in it have parents who are nurse/doctor, hospital employee/nurse, and teacher/doctor. It’s definitely not for kids whose parents are both WFH. The children are spaced out in two big rooms at the school and the childcare staff have a schedule for each child to keep track of their live classes. Sometimes the children miss a class or are late to a class because if they have to move through the building for lunch/outside time they do it in groups and not all the schedules coordinate across grade levels.

Can you tell me more about the childcare and supervised logins? Is this paid for by the school? On-site childcare? How does the supervised logins work?

I have 2 ES children and we are starting hybrid next week. I'm actually not a working parent but DH is an essential worker and works out of the home. However, so many families I know have two working parents, and the hybrid schedule seems almost impossible manage for these families, with all the logistics. In particular, the am/pm hybrid model. I don't feel like it would work long term for families with two working parents, and the school district is going to have to come up with a better solution.

Not sure if our experience is helpful, you may be looking for younger students, but my DS is in a private HS in MD and it’s hybrid. Two days in, two days synchronous. Fridays are some classes, if needed, or for working on assignments, or bringing an entire grade in for something.

I’m so grateful for it, and in week three it’s going well.

Is it 2 day in person, 2 day asynchronous? Or am/pm? Do you have two working parents in your household?
