Waiting to reveal the gender until birth = artificially manufactured anticipation to unnecessarily amplify an already pretty cool thing. It's crazy easy and convenient to know the baby's sex before birth. You have to ACTIVELY choose not to find out these days, which seems a very artificial thing to do. So I guess you are right, because in a way, the people who are so adamant that "it be a surprise" may be just as bad as the gender reveal people. When you make the choice NOT to find out the gender, and tell everyone you know that you "want a surprise," you are just creating a fuss over something no one really cares about anyway. People ask the gender of your unborn baby to be polite, not because they actually care.

Just find out the gender at 20 weeks, tell people, and move on. All this fuss is exhausting.

Huh? No one cared other than grandmas when I didn’t find out the sex. It truly was a surprise for Dh and I. Didn’t care what Facebook thought.

You sound exhausted by getting so worked up over someone else's choice.

Here's how it actually goes:

"Oh, when are you due? Boy or girl?"
"July, and not sure. We're waiting to find out."
"Oh cool. Congrats!"
"Thank you!"

I used to be very opposed to gender reveals. But it is the reason for people to get together. I don’t have kids, who cares?

Agree. No one really cares.

I agree. I think a shower is all you get.

I will say though that people don’t want to throw showers for friends ($$$) and families aren’t supposed to throw them. So I’ve known so many women who end up with no shower and are upset about it. They have a no gifts meet the baby luncheon instead or a gender reveal because they still want support for them and the baby.

Agree
Don’t tell me what you’re having if you want me to be interested to find out you gave birth. And please don’t tell me the name either. Then I have nothing to look forward to.
Ex: Susan had the baby! Oh? What did she have? Did she name him/her yet?

Vs: Jadyn Oliver was born yesterday! (Crickets)

I get the feeling that OP is the sort of person who is similarly incensed by couples that wait until birth to find out the sex of the baby.

I care and I would be excited to be invited to one.

I think it’s one of those activities where you can choose not to do it and also not judge others for choosing to do it. It’s kind of cute to watch on social media. But I would never.

Enough said...
Gender reveal videos, parties, announcements, etc. are low class and tacky.
