This is really smart on Chuck and Liz. They are giving Trump the credit.

They will let Trump give “a huge gift” to young people in an effort to buy their vote. It puts Congressional GOP in a tough spot, since they too want those young voters.

Well played, Senate Dems.

Why would you expect that? You no longer have student loans.

Why? If they make college free, do they need to pay everyone who has ever paid for college?

If they change social security benefits, do people who received more benefits in the past need to pay it back?

When they changed the seatbelt laws, should they have retroactively arrested everyone who wasn't previously following the law?

You're being ridiculous. Why are people like crabs in a barrel? Why do you believe you need to pull others down to succeed?

Every time we implement a new policy, there are people who could have benefited in the past but will not now. You're not special, just selfish.

Sorry! Meant this for 10:54

+1

I think it's more important to reform the system. This punishes people who managed to pay off their debt or who worked their way through school to avoid it.

And PP, I agree. Those that have paid off their loans should get equal treatment, but that is just not how we seem to be running things right now.

Capitalism?

Mostly it has to do with states providing less in support dollars. Before 2000, college was cheaper. Before 1990, even cheaper. But just for the student. The boomers got state tax cuts (years after they got their cheap college) and those tax cuts had to come from somewhere.

As an example, 1990 article but it applies to most states.

Is this a negotiating tactic or just a DOA headline grab? I think the average student debt is only $30,000.
