These one-day formats are driven by COVID and wanting to minimize perceived risks for all involved. Agree with a PP the college black out period is impacting tournament formats at least for the high school age groups. D1 coaches will not be able to attend these events until at least January 1, 2021 and maybe further into next year as the NCAA keeps extending the college dead period. Without college coaches attending is there really a need for two-day events outside of supporting the local economies, which is a good thing. We will more likely see one-day tournaments until coaches can start attending again. And how soon this happens will be driven by variables like COVID, a vaccine, school budgets, and the election.

And switching to 3 games to get enough film is fine too because there won't be any D1 coaches there

I think there is just a market for one day tournaments in the fall because of (1) people not loving traveling for corona and (2) people not loving a lot of travel for fall tournaments generally. Not all fall tournaments will be one day, but some will switch to that format not because they are required to but because of market demand for one day events. Especially teams playing HOCO this fall locally probably aren’t in the mood for a ton of fall travel.

Just noticed that the Mid Atlantic tourney is now a one day event (3 games). Did they change the format because of Covid19 regulations? If so does that mean that Chesapeake is also going to change their format?
