I don't think of it as "allow." Physical existence happens, with all the highs and lows that come with it. It's how we process that existence - how we cope, support each other, grow personally, learn new things, and rebuild is what living is all about. It's not about "fair" and who deserves to have good things vs. bad things. We all get a taste of both and cope differently. What crushes one person, another finds a way to draw strength from.

The child who gets cancer definitely deserved it, as a consequence of their actions.

Ahh the simpleton answer. Dig deeper

Because God is all-knowing. How’s that?

How is that responsive? Free will does not answer numerous non-man made tragedies and the fact that God is "all-knowing" doesnt answer the question at all.

DP - What is your faith background? Are you at all religious? I agree with PP that your answers lack enough substance to really answer the OP.

What perspective are you seeking? Answers will vary. I suggest reading the book of Job for a Judson-Christian perspective. From a Christian perspective, there is an expectation that your faith / love of God will be tested. Do you give up being an instrument of God’s love in the face of adversity or not?

What about natural suffering? Natural disasters, illness, for example

That is just to test your faith. Or the work of the Devil. Or whatever is convenient at the time.

Could be you live too close to gay people.

The Bible isn't going to give you an objectively "true" explanation. The Bible was just written by people and it's reflective of what they believe.

Is there an explanation in the Bible?
