I'm the OP and I really don't think it's fair to say the teachers don't care about their students. I know many who absolutely love their students. And as a PP said, special ed teachers - especially those working with the most high-needs students - are hard to come by.
I'm just so frustrated that they simply said no instead of "here's what we can do to make this work"
Blerg.
It sounds like they did say what it would take to work: “Vice President Melissa Ellis went through a checklist based on some concerns she heard from educators on topics like using PPE, practicing social distancing, disinfecting surfaces and air ventilation.”
I hate teaching distance learning, but also would hesitate to sign up to go back if they are keeping others home. I would qualify for FMLA so you couldn’t fire me, either. It seems clear we don’t know the full teachers’ side of things.
