I guess you can tell her you're not comfortable having her come over any more, but honestly, any sitter you hire will likely be working other jobs or sitting for other families. They have bills to pay, and two afternoons a week isn't going to cut it.

Wow I'm s nanny and this discussion is freaking me out. I am very concerned about the safety of my "kids" but I can also understand why this might happen. I would never want to be in a position where I would lie to my employer but I what would do if I needed the money. Small families cannot afford to pay for childcare they are not receiving. Oy.

Yep this. I’m a nanny and don’t tell my bosses about anything I do outside work. They think I don’t leave the house. They cut my hours with covid but still expect me to stay home? No ma’am. I need to do lots of extra jobs to make up for all the hours you cut.

Most babysitters will work another job or multiple families. You both put each other at risk.

Yes you are being overly crazy.

The risk goes both ways. My friend was exposed by the family she sits for.

No, she’s going to not pay her sitter and not have her come over. Sucks for the sitter, sucks for the family.

We have an awesome sitter who comes over 2 afternoons per week to entertain my kids for a few hours. She used to pick them up from school but we transitioned her to just come over after Covid hit. She has been taking precautions and being safe, however she told me today that she just got a part time job at a gym to earn some extra money. She didn’t go into detail about what she will he doing - I know she is a trained yoga instructor but it may just be a front desk/check in job. She was waitressing pre-Covid but got let go and hasn’t been able to find any restaurant work, which I doubt is any safer than a gym.

I feel a bit uneasy about having someone who is spending hours per day at a gym come into our house. Just feels like such a big risk for our family, as we are still being very, very careful. Am I being overly crazy? What would others do in this situation?
