While it can be excessive, it’s a part of the team camaraderie for the players and families. Some of my son’s favorite tournament memories are just hanging out with his teammates between games, and the snacking plays into setting the tone.

I’ve seen plenty of dancing at lacrosse tournaments too. It’s good to see kids giving a nod to the history of the game

A few years ago I was at a tournament and after the games the teams lined up and did their favorite Fortnite dances.

I agree there is always a lot of wasted food and most of it was junk. I always had to watch my kid like a hawk so she doesn't eat three donuts and then try to play.

That said, I 100% appreciate the boxes of coffee. But in general don't miss it and hope it stays gone.

A large feast for players is part of the tradition of the game, going back to its Native American roots.

From the history of lacrosse on Wikipedia...

“When the game was over ceremonial dance took place, along with a large feast for the hungry players.”

When my kids were little and playing rec, (various sports) I always thought it was weird that we needed to have a team snack after games. When we moved to club teams I thought it would end, but lacrosse is out of control. DS has played on 2 teams and there is always a signup sent out and it always feels like so much junk - chips, mini muffins, junky crackers, rice crispy treats etc. There is usually requests for fruit, too, but that's not what the kids want to eat when they see all the other crap. On top of that, there is always so much wasted food. Why can't each family just provide for their own kid? One time we had 2 games back to back and someone emailed to say they would bring sandwiches, which meant someone else volunteered to bring chips. I'm more ok with this because it wasn't so much junk, but still it wasn't necessary. Does this happen in other team sports too? DD plays a different sport and while I do see some teams lay out a spread, its rare.

This is generally how it has worked for every team in every sport my kids have played. A parent would organize a half-time snack, post-game snack, etc.

Competition to be The Best Mom, or best parent. The more competitive the sport, or the selection process, the more important it is to be seen/known as setting the bar high, higher than other parents.

OP here. Not for us. We were just asked to bring individually wrapped items. I thought Covid would stop it, too, but no.
