I don't think 5 feet tall and 93 pounds is anything to worry about, sounds like a normal sized boy to me.

We call it the growth pudge in our family. For both boy and girl it consistently lasted about 5-6 months before a burst of growth. Around puberty it was a little more weight and then a little more height for dd. DS is now 10, almost 11 and I am wondering the same thing as COVID has really messed up his physical activity.

A growth spurt can happen at any time, no? Not talking necessarily puberty, but simply a growth spurt.

Between ages 10 and 11, my son gained 17 pounds. Between 11 and 12, he grew four inches and gained a minimal amount of weight. He's no longer the skinny kid he was at 10, but he's not fat.

It lasts until they grow.

When my daughter was 9 she got a bit pudgy. I had heard that weight gain is common before a growth spurt at that age, but worried about it. Sure enough, she shot up and thinned out at 10. Lost all baby pudge and took on a tall, lean, athletic look. I’d say the pudge lasted 6 months to a year, all told.

Why aren’t you asking your pediatrician?

My son turned 10 in April and has gained 13 or so pounds since his well check then. He's grown 1.5 inches as well, but is definitely getting pudgy in his belly and his face and legs are much fuller. We don't discuss weight nor weigh him.

He's always been tall (95th percentile) but his weight has gone from very slim (told by doctors to make him gain weight) to around the 80th percentile, though combined with his height, the doctors have never been worried. He's now 60" and about 93 lbs. He's definitely eating more but has remained quite active. Based on his growth curve, he should be about 6'1" like his father (my husband's side makes big tall boys).

I know some kid gain weight before a growth spurt but I wasn't sure how long this phase lasts- a couple of years or more like a couple of weeks?
