When I was learning Spanish in school decades ago, our teachers skipped having us conjugate vosotros and said people don’t really need it.

Why would your child make this up?

I did a study abroad program in Spain when I was in college. I quickly picked it up. Wasn’t an issue.

I took it 5 years in the 80's and we skipped vosotros. Was totally surprised for my daughter to start learning it with Spanish 1 in fcps this year. I also took it in college after that and didn't learn vosotros.

I was a Spanish major in college (graduated in the mid-90s) and never learned vosotros well. In my ten years of Spanish instruction, only one teacher ever used it, and she was from a country where they used it.

No, in Spain, they mostly say ustedes. Using vosotros will make you stand out as a non-native speaker. An intelligent, well-studied non-native speaker, but it's not necessary to learn in order to speak and understand fluent Spanish when in Spain

OK, then it isn't even necessary to learn vosotros if you want to actually use your Spanish in Spain. So basically, it isn't necessary to learn it at all.

Ridiculous to skip it though. Not that hard to simply add it to curriculum. It’s not like they’re making them say BarTHElona. By the way the TH sound in Spain is awesome!

They've never done vosotros, and don't need to. It's not widely used, even in Spain, and the only people I ever hear use it are white people who want to sound like worldly tourists.

Is my kid yanking my chain here? She’s taking Spanish and they are conjugating verbs. She told me that they are not required to learn Vosotros.

What’s the story here? I know we were required to learn it when I took a language in school. Is this truly an MCPS thing or is our teacher just being lazy?
