I have an almost identical age gap with my DH. I think so long as you are a fit 56 and you two are in the same stage of life, it can work. But, note that this can change over time. As I get older, I realize that just as 6 and 18 is creepy and weird, 44 and 56 is very different than 63 and 75.

DH is 12 years older than I am; we married at 26/38. I hardly ever think about the age difference anymore, though our kids love to marvel at how, when he was 18, I was 6.

That's kind of a weird thing to ask for a 12 year age gap in your 40's and 50s. IDK, they get along, new kids aren't an issue and so what's the big deal? It's old for you maybe, but obviously isn't for everyone, we all have our preferences. I'm the 34 year old PP with a 44 year old, but if I were single I would be ok with going up to 50 and down to 30. My best female friends are also 10-ish years older than me, so clearly for some of us we either don't care much about age or gravitate a little higher or lower normally.

I am surprised at this thread. I will be 43 soon. I would not date a man 5 years older than me let alone one in his 50s. (This might have something to do with low-T in the past but even without that I do not think I would date much older.)

I married DH when I was 27 and he was 41. We’ve been happily married for 11 years. Age gap has been no big deal.

I don't think this is weird at all. As you said, it's not like you're 18 and 30! The gap becomes less important the older you are. We are 34 and 44 and I kinda forget about it. Occasionally he will mention something from his high school or college years where I either don't get it or relate and I have to remind him I am not his age. "I was in elementary school in the 90s so no, I wasn't really on that music scene"

I am 56 and just started dating a 44yo woman. She knows how old I am so obviously she’s ok with it.

I know you think you're being clever, but I do know several 40 something men dating 50 something women. It truly isn't a big deal.

No I don’t think that’s weird. Once your both at least ~26 I don’t think the age gap is noticeable. My son’s best friend’s mom is 16 years younger than me and we are close.

After years alone, I met a nice woman recently. We’ve had several dates by zoom and met once in a park. The thing I worry about, though, is I am 56 and she is 44. I know if I was 30 and she 18 it would be scandalous, but is the issue in middle age anything to be concerned about. I can’t help but think that I will be 60 before she is 50! She hasn’t said anything about it so should I just forget it?
