You can get lessons on covid now?

Why are you being obtuse. The person obviously meant wait until the risks of covid exposure lessens.

I would find a half day preschool for some regular socialization. If you can provide it through playdates with families being safe about covid, then you can wait to see if your preschool reopens in January.

I'm not sure where you're located, but my child's 4 year old class at christ presbyterian preschool in Fairfax has spots available.

Play with other kiddos is so important for a variety of reasons. I know VBCC (Vienna Baptist Children's Center) is an amazing preschool and looking for some new students (they are in a similar situation in regards to lower enrollment this year due to the COVID). My kiddos go there and we are hoping they get a few more kids on board to start the year. Also, it not at all religious if that's not your thing. Just a great, play-based, child-centered place. Check it out!

I have a 4 year old too and was in a similar situation. Went back and forth about whether to find another school or not. Did so in the end. My kid is very social so we thought it would be for the best to find a way to interact with people outside the family.

Ours didn’t open either but I don’t think it matters. She’s starting to read and knows all her letters and numbers and their sounds. Play is the most important. I’m glad she gets another year with her younger siblings (inhome daycare)

Just keep on top of what she should be/ could be knowing at this stage.

Would you be able to work if she stays home? If yes, then I wouldn't send her. Kindergarten is a nice gradual transition anyway.

I would definitely find a new school - whether a preschool or a daycare.

Meh. Ours went to preschool at 2.5. Shes now 4.5 and hers is opening but we are bot sending because grandparents and their risk tolerance (we ate all local and see them often). I have no concerns about her k readiness.

I’m considering finding a new school given this is my daughters last year before Kindergarten and my gut tells me her school probably won’t open in January if it’s not even attempting to open now.

I think this year is relatively important to prepare her for how long of a day Kindergarten is here. Anyone else agree or disagree? Is it worth trying to find a new program? I hate the idea of her starting over at a new place but the alternative is nothing, right now.

Definitely get her in preschool now. Why did you wait so long?

Why is everyone so snarky on this page? Such a waste of - what could be - a good resource if everyone would just act like adults instead of choosing to be as sarcastic as possible because they can remain anonymous. Move on if you don’t have anything helpful to add.
