I’m actually surprised that many resigned. I wouldn’t be able to afford to do that.

If you are older or have a preexisting health condition, you may take your chances and retire earlier than you would like. Or decide it's better to scrape by on one income for a while. Especially if you are a staff member not making much to start with.

Something fishy here.

But yes, older teachers and staff members will retire or resign. Look at the many threads on DCUM telling teachers to leave if they don't like "it" (whatever "it" is.)

Since it was hybrid -- maybe they didn't want to go in. Especially knowing its in Buffalo and with the terrible winters - impossible to keep windows and doors open or social distance outside the indoor classrooms.

Sure, I understand the reasons but resigning means no job. No pay. No benefits. I’m a teacher and I wouldn’t be able to just resign and 111 in a district that size seems like a lot.

Now, the post above about retirements and such may explain much of it.

Government needs a scapegoat, and the Unions are always one of the favorites to blame. You see it here on DCUM all day long.

11:23 here. I hadn’t seen the union’s post. Interesting.

Interesting problem to have.

Over 200 Williamsville Central School District teachers have either resigned or asked for a year of LWOP while their school was split between in-person/virtual. Now the district is so short-staffed they are delaying the virtual start until October. The district only has 9,000 students total btw.
