In anticipation of our eldest child becoming old enough to get a drivers permit later this year, does anyone have any suggestions on lessons learned and how to best go about this process? When I obtained my license several decades ago in another state, everyone had to take driver's ed (non-road) sophomore year of high school which prepared us for the written knowledge test before hitting the road. Then you could get your permit 6 months earlier if you took a in-vehicle drivers ed class through a private company so everyone did that. Neither of those structures seem to be in place here in DC, although we obviously can hire a driving school to help with the on-road instruction. Trying to develop a plan and would appreciate hearing from others' experiences. Thanks!
