Subject: Small Babies?
Some babies are just small! My full term boy was 5 lb 10 oz (4th percentile) and I am a tall person (and weighed 9 lb 10 oz when I was born!).
I feel guilty, like I did something wrong during my pregnancy (I couldn't gain weight) but doctors have assured me he is perfectly healthy and normal, just on the small side of normal. He's chunking out though!
As long as he's gaining, and it sounds like he is, he'll be just fine

Please don't worry. I'm sure they were just saying "Oh he's so tiny!" but not in a "he's sickly and emaciated!" way. I feel like this is just something people say. "He's so precious!" "He's tiny!" "What a chunk!"
My babies were small too- my full term baby was 6lbs 14oz and she's now 99th percentile for weight and height at age 6. My 33 weeker was 4lbs 10oz. DH and I are both very tall. Your baby is doing great!!

OP, you are very small - so it shouldn't surprise you that you have a small baby!
But anyhow, don't listen to your parents. Your baby is a normal size and that size doesn't indicate much about his/her future except what size clothes to buy. Enjoy!!

OP here. I’m 5’1”, 120lbs. I gained 30lbs with him. I was born 4lbs 11oz but I was 2 months early. My husband is tall.

I think the weight on babies has more to do with available space. While I’m not an unusually small person, I do have a short torso and a retroverted uterus. Meaning it is tiled backward instead of forward. I feel like this causes more resistance to uterine growth. My stomach always measured small for uterine fundal height because my uterus never tiled forward and out, it sort of grew backward into me and up.

My DD was born the day before her due date and was only 6 lbs 8 oz. She dropped to 5.5 lbs that first week during the typical newborn drop, which concerned me, but I wish I wouldn't have stressed about it so much at the time. She caught up!
Now she's a healthy 5yo who's in the 80th percentile for height and 50th for weight.
6 lbs is just fine for full term! I'm 5'9", fwiw.

I think it matches parent's birth weights. I was 6lbs, 5oz and so was my DD exactly. I am petite and 5'0. DD is 99th percentile for height now and is average weight. DH is very tall (6'3), but not wide or husky.
DS was 9lbs, 14 oz. DH was 10lbs,2 oz. No one could have been more shocked than me about what a huge baby my second was (3.5 lbs more than my first! and I weighed the same!). Both were very healthy 41 week babies. DS is very skinny and tall now, not the huge baby that he was at birth.
TLDR birth weight doesn't mean much and it's genetic.
