Yeah, no. I hope there isn't a lot of warming up to it from teachers and other kids/parents. In an ideal world it wouldn't even be mentioned, but I know the kids will want to go and it will be another battle. Hopefully I can convince them to just receive candy from me.

Someone in our neighborhood just started a neighborhood working group of parents to think through this and put together a neighborhood plan.

I plan to stand on my porch and toss candy at the kids from 6 feet away.

More importantly, what day will Halloween trick or treating occur this year? Is it too early to start that thread? 😂

I’d love a reason not to have to do it. My kid always wants to go, gets to the furthest point of the neighborhood and wants to come home, then complains about not having enough candy.

We have very few kids trick or treating in our no HOA neighborhood, so I will probably leave candy on the porch and let them help themselves.

Its not an official even so it cannot be canceled. We participate every year. We will not be this year. NO safe way to do it.

This seems backwards to me.

Or not really, because I think either option is relatively low-risk, being basically outdoors. But I don't see how a party would be safer, especially with what we understand now about the risk of people breathing on you, sustained contact etc. vs the negligible risk of fomites (residual virus on "things.") Also, who are these "strangers?" Your neighbors, presumable, most of whom you'd be having this party with?

I am all for it and think it's the one thing our kids can all do fairly normally this year. Masks and all.

I think our MoCo neighborhood is fairly (?) conservative about COVID, but I imagine a few neighboring blocks will collectively agree via listserv to do something like put out candy in bowls and wave through windows.

IDK... I was thinking this, and then realized some old folks who didn't get the memo might think it's okay to hand candy to kids directly and then... sigh... I'm conservative about COVID but don't think this presents a big risk AND would rather people not do it (hand out candy directly, especially if they're not wearing masks).

Maybe we'll need to post signs too. :/ A mess.

I’m assuming our neighborhood will carry on as normal, with more people than usual sitting on their driveways to give out candy. And of course some families will opt out.

What are people thinking is going to happen? Will it be completely canceled? Organized in a different way? I'm sure it will differ by neighborhood, in some ways.
