Same poster but wanted to add what our center has done for precautions - temp check and symptom questionnaire at door (I know the fever thing isn't a good indicator but still a good practice), all adults in the center wear masks at all times, no parents in center (pickup/dropoff done outside), all kids have their own bucket for all supplies, outdoor play only in the center's own playground, which is wiped down between classes, any kid showing any symptom at all (or with someone in the household who has a symptom) has to stay home for 10 days from the onset, trying to keep kids distanced as much as possible with small children, teaching/encouraging kids 2+ to wear a mask

One case at our small center was confirmed two weeks ago. Kid got sick on a Saturday but was in school Friday with no apparent symptoms so it's hard to tell if they were shedding virus at that point. No other students or teachers have gotten sick or tested positive.

My kids' fairly large daycare has been open since April. One case in a student (age between 3 and 5), no other kids or parents or teachers infected. The class quarantined for 2 weeks, and now they're all back.

Another stupid post. Of course daycares will get covid, it's contagious. That doesnt mean you shut them down forever. You take mitigation measures.

Well I think there are two false narratives out there:

1. Daycares and preschools that take precautions will not have any COVID cases.

(precautions like no class mixing mitigate the impact by limiting who is exposed when someone comes in with COVID)

2. The fact that we've seen cases at daycares/preschools means that they are not safe and should be closed down.

(unless it's a case of everyone at the daycare becoming infected, it doesn't seem that surprising to me - we all know we have COVID in the community so it's going to get into daycare at some point)

OP did not say that. Why are you presuming? Are you a daycare owner? There are a few trolling around on DCUM. In the spring they were out in full force trying to persuade parents to keep paying for spots to "reserve" them.

Are all daycares closing down though? I know one that had three and never closed. I don’t think there are any official guidelines in place.

This! A day care temporarily closing to prevent an outbreak is what is supposed to happen. It’s what we need to do to operate a vital service during a pandemic. Let’s stop trying to make pariahs out of centers that have to conduct appropriate measures to operate.

I've heard of some one offs too.

I’ve heard of a few one-off where someone in the class was positive but no outbreaks (which I believe is defined as two or more positives in a setting).

Anyone? A client had their daycare shut down in Alexandria and now my friend's daughter's had 3 confirmed cases in Herndon. Not great.
