Cute beach towels or books are always nice. So is fancy hand soap. And, you can never go wrong with wine.

Gift card to a favorite restaurant is what we typically do. We also pay for the cleaning service.

In my family a heartfelt thank you, and returning the favor when able would be an acceptable thanks.

That's very kind of you and of your cousin. I think sending flowers or wine would be much appreciated if they like that sort of thing.

Does he use the home for rental income? If so, I could see a monetary gift being more appreciated, but if not, a thoughtful gift is more appropriate from family.

I'd send a few happy photographs you took inside the house and express the happy moments you spent on a thank you card + anything he might like (wine, giftcard to a restaurant etc).

Let's say you saved $500, I'd give at least $200.

I think a generous gift card ($100-$200) to a restaurant and a thank you card would suffice in your case.

My younger siblings use my beach house for free all the time, mainly because it is next doors to my parents. They always get the house cleaned and get any needed maintainence done. I pay for it of course, but we discuss stuff on our group chat. They also keep an eye on my parents home. Between the two houses there is ample room for all of us, but except for two times where we all have been together in the last 5 years, most of our vacations are staggered. Its worked out well for our family.

If they use the house and go to restaurants when they’re there, a handwritten thank you with a gift card to a restaurant they like.

Note and a (modest) gift card, local wine, six pack of beer, is fine.

What would be an appropriate thank you for my much older cousin who rented me his beach house at a discount?
We didn't leave anything like wine/flowers at the house as other renters were coming in right afterward; I'd like to send him something.
