No, they're not actually closing. Most of the schools i Have friends attending have not had any cases so far or if they have a case they have quarantined that class (and only that class). They haven't closed the school or the district.
I'm not saying this is good or smart but that it'a happening and it feels like we are living on a different planet although we have 25% of the cases. It's just weird.

I've had the same feeling seeing all of the back-to-school pictures. It's adding to the COVID fatigue/depression that has been creeping in the last month or so.

My friends in FL (where I grew up) have shown pictures of their kids going off to school same as usual except for masks.
Meanwhile I'm in NYC with a positivity rate of less than 1% and my private wants to open remotely despite their giant stockpile of PPE, cleaners and air filters. Because teachers don't want to come in. Remote first grade. FML.

yes, they're going to school. Many are getting on school buses in the pictures.
TN, GA, SC, TX, etc. All heading to school like they're in a different country than we are here in the DMV.
It's crazy.
All southern states having outbreaks in some parts. No thanks.
I have friends in KY, IN, Ohio, and other places, and they're online.

I feel the same OP. I'm also a nurse who worked with Covid patients until our hospital had none hospitalized. My entire state has 255 current cases and they have been steadily going down since June. My county has about 30 active cases. Our district is doing DL. I'm baffled that states whose numbers are worse than ours or who have been seeing increasing numbers are going back to school.
I don't think we would have sent DS back even if school had opened (we are homeschooling this year ) but I'm still just surprised by how differently it's been handled everywhere. And I don't think it's a political thing as my state (unfortunately) has quite a few Trump supporters

Yeah I’m good not following Georgia, South Carolina, and most of the other states opened colleges and then closed them.
college kids aren't school age kids
The main point is this, we need universal standards
If the rate of positivity is below say 7% and there are less than 10 cases per say per 10,000 people then open
The problem around here is there are no open standards at all. Or they are insanely low like 10 cases per 100,000 or 1,000,000 insane

Are you sure they are all going to school? I have friends in several states (including 2 you mention) that posted pics but are doing virtual. One posted pics in one state you mention that are going to school because they were in carseats.

I'm an RN married to an MD and work with Covid patients. I get the risk. My husband had a long-standing patient in his 50's (no pre-existing conditions) die of the virus this week. It's not a joke.
BUT my Facebook and Instagram is littered with pictures from across the country of kids going back to school: Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Colorado, South Carolina, North Carolina, Utah.
I have dozens of friends whose kids are back in school.
Public and private.
It's maddening that we have between 25-50% of their rates of infection here in DC and our kids are home interminably. I have no read hope that anyone will go back in 20-21.
